Former news anchor pleads guilty to stabbing mother to death on Halloween

Angelynn "Angie" Mock, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in connection with the slaying of her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, on Oct. 31, 2025, the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Under the terms of the plea, Mock faces life in prison with eligibility for parole after 25 years.

Officers were called to the Wichita home Mock and Avers shared with Mock's stepfather around 7:50 a.m. on Oct. 31. When they arrived, Mock was found outside with cuts on her hands, according to the Wichita Police Department.

Avers was taken to a hospital with multiple stab wounds, and later died.

Mock's stepfather told KAKE-TV that she had been diagnosed with mental illness and suffered from delusions and depression.

Prior to that, she worked as a morning anchor from 2007 to 2011 at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City, the profile states. Mock held other reporting stints in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 5.
