The group stopped the show after just two songs as his bandmates asked fans to pray for him.
Keyboardist Jonathan Cain addressed the crowd, apologizing for the interruption while urging fans to keep the drummer in their prayers.
"We're going to see what happens as this progresses," Cain explained. "It's an unfortunate situation. We're very sorry. We're hoping it's only a delay, but please - I'm sorry. Don't worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you."
Schon said Castronovo was being taken to the hospital and confirmed the concert would continue with the band's longtime drum technician, Steve Toomey, taking over behind the kit.
"Please give a big hand for Steve Toomey. We'll be back in about 15 minutes. We love you all, we're really sorry about the inconvenience," Schon said.
Schon later dedicated the performance to his bandmate and expressed hope that Castronovo would recover.
"This concert's for Deen tonight. I'd love you all to pray for him. Everybody's been going through a lot. I think he's going to be fine," Schon said.
The cause of the medical emergency has not been publicly disclosed.
Fox News Digital reached out to Journey's representatives for comment.
The tour features Schon and Cain alongside Pineda, Castronovo, keyboardist Jason Derlatka and bassist Todd Jensen. The North American run kicked off in February, and the tour is scheduled to conclude Nov. 28 in San Francisco.
Schon has previously described the tour as a celebration of Journey's music and the fans who have supported the band for generations.
